Bucket-chain excavators are some of the largest machines in the world. This is what it looks like when one moves.

The largest vehicles in the world won't fit on any highway. They are the enormous bucket-chain and bucket-wheel excavators used in strip mining operations. These giant machines weigh thousands of tons and dwarf entire buildings.

And they can move. Some of these enormous machines have crawlers that they can use to traverse the terrain, while others move on rails. They may not move very fast, but they can cover a great deal of ground.

Take, for instance, the RK 5000, a large bucket-chain excavator working in a lignite mine in the Czech Republic. It was recently moved from the mine itself into a parking space above the mine, and filmmaker Ibra Ibrahimovič captured the whole thing in this incredible timelapse video:

You might think that one of these machines barreling down on you would be terrifying, but the excavator actually moves at a very slow crawl. The timelapse is sped up by a factor of over one hundred and the entire process of moving the RK 5000 took two months.

Still, if you're in the way of one of these vehicles, it's best to move.
