DALLAS — State Rep. Karen Boback and State Sen. Lisa Baker Tuesday announced the awarding of nearly $2 million in state funding for community improvements in the 117th Legislative District.
The two lawmakers played a key role in securing the Local Share Account (LSA) grants for the projects and purchases.
“Keeping our communities safe is a top priority of mine and a number of these grants are going toward new vehicles and equipment for local police and fire departments,” said Boback, R-Harveys Lake. “It is always good news when state money comes back into the district to improve our quality of life.”
Baker, R-Lehman Township, added, “During a time when many families and communities are feeling an immense strain from rising inflation and ongoing efforts to recover from the effects of the pandemic, it is crucial that state government provides support to make our region stronger, safer and more vibrant. I’m proud to have worked with my fellow elected officials to address the needs that have been voiced by many local leaders.”
• $300,000 to the Back Mountain Community Partnership for the purchase of police vehicles and equipment.
• $183,331 for construction of a new police/road department garage.
• $154,786 for the purchase of a new diesel truck.
• $163,214 for the purchase of new police equipment.
• $100,000 for Tripp Road improvement project (Phase II).
• $109,292 for the purchase of new public works vehicle and equipment.
• $130,000 for the purchase of a new dump truck, plow and spreader.
• $23,118 for the purchase of a new hitch mower.
• $249,790 to the Hunlock Creek Volunteer Fire Company for the purchase of a new response vehicle.
• $175,161 to the Jonathan R. Davis Fire Department for the purchase of a fire truck and utility task vehicle.
• $100,000 for the purchase of a wheel loader and a crack sealer.
Boback also worked with Sen. Marty Flynn, D-Scranton, to secure grants for the following Lackawanna County municipalities in the 117th Legislative District:
• $41,280 for the purchase of a new police vehicle.
• $89,952 to the Dalton Sewer Authority for the purchase of a trailer-mounted sewer jet machine.
• $172,636 for paving of College Road (Phase II) and new guide rails.
The grants were approved and awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, which was established as an independent agency that holds fiduciary responsibility over the funding of programs and investments in Pennsylvania’s economic growth. LSA grants are derived from gaming revenues.
