You’re probably doing a double-take right now, checking to make sure that you are in fact reading this correctly. The answer is yes, I’m recommending that you consider stacking the Athletics this evening. At least from a mini stack perspective. Why, you ask? Well, let’s dive in a bit deeper here.

Spencer Howard straight up sucks. It’s true. I feel kind of bad for typing it out as explicitly as that, but the data doesn’t lie. Amongst starters throwing on the Friday slate, he owns the worst SIERA (5.94 in his last month of work), barely strikes anyone out (3.86 K/9 in that time), walks more guys per 9 than he Ks (4.5), generates virtually no swings and misses (4.1% whiff%) and barely gets anyone to chase a pitch out of the zone (20.9%). Moral of the story is that he doesn’t fool anyone, and is basically a human replacement for a pitching machine. Right-handed batters in particular have really dont well against him, sporting a .508 wOBA and .792 SLG in their 57 PA thus far – pretty undeniable stats to exploit. That makes the likes of Ramon Laureano (136 wRC+ in his last 30 days) and Sean Murphy (135 wRC+) pretty darn elite given the power they bring to the table. Elvis Andrus (123 wRC+) has been hitting well in his own right, too. Stephen Piscotty and Nick Allen make for intriguing secondary options in deeper stacks – but Laureano and Murphy really net out as top options for me on this slate, without question.

It’s only fitting to attack an elite offense, who may be pretty chalky, after speaking about a group that is probably going to be pretty under-owned on the slate, right? Right. Well, that’s what I’m feeling we ought to go with here as our second stack to highlight with the Bronx Bombers.

Tyler Wells is having a very solid season for the Orioles, but has actually been pretty darn lucky to date (3.38 ERA vs 4.63 xFIP in his 18 starts). And, when you dig a bit deeper, you can see that he really struggles against right-handed hitters (5.45 xFIP in the split) compared to lefties (3.72 xFIP). That’s a pretty staggering differential, my friends, and one that we can absolutely exploit tonight on the Friday slate. Fire up heavy exposure to the likes of DJ LeMahieu (180 wRC+ over the last month of action), Aaron Judge (151 wRC+), Giancarlo Stanton (129 wRC+), Gleyber Torres (120 wRC+ and really heating up) and Josh Donaldson (who can go off anytime at a solid DFS value across the industry). The Judge/Stanton/LeMahieu/Torres 4-pack is by far the stack that I’d be the most excited about here, and with how many RHBs the Yanks trot out regularly, they’re sure to put up 5+ runs in tonight’s tilt (psst – take the over on the team total, as a prop bet, wherever you can).
